8 ½” x 11”, 50 sheets, 2-sided
USDA MyPlate model includes 1/2 fruits and vegetables, 1/4 lean protein, and 1/4 whole grains. It’s a model that’s easy for parents and kids to understand good nutrition – but it doesn’t help when some of the food on MyPlate is obscured – such as the case with a burrito.
These nutritional handouts take a quick look at healthy portions with the Portion Distortion Burrito. With simple visual images, this 2-sided handout illustrates the difference between what you’re served and what’s considered a serving of a favorite Mexican meal: chicken burrito with chips and salsa. The backside of the handout features easy ways to measure portion sizes, USDA recommended calorie levels, common oversized portions, and more.
These handouts would be appropriate in Family and Consumer Science (FACS), Life Skills, Health and Culinary classrooms as well as in cafeterias or even in restaurants as placemats that occupy kids while teaching them about nutrition.
